I didn’t time my trip right to be able to see the solar eclipse, but I did get to see The Glorious Sons play a great show at the House of Blues in Dallas!
To cover the cost of my trip, I used lots of credit card perks. Airline credits from the American Express Platinum (referral link) and the Bank of America Premium Rewards cards went to the cost of the Southwest flight. Last year I signed up for the Chase Marriott Boundless (referral link) card when it had a bonus of five 50,000 point night certificates. Even though the SpringHill Suites I stayed at in Dallas didn’t come close to 50,000 points per night, it was walking distance to the venue and I don’t have any solid plans to use the certificates at their maximum value before they expire.
On my way to Dallas, I stopped at the Centurian Lounge at Sky Harbor for a preflight breakfast courtesy the Platinum card. Unfortunately Dallas Love Field doesn’t have a lounge I could access with my card, but the hotel had a complimentary breakfast that I filled up on before my flight. I also used Uber to get to the hotel and then back to the airport while I was in Dallas. That was covered by the monthly Uber credit from my American Express Platinum and Gold cards as well as some gift cards I earned from Microsoft Rewards and Swagbucks (referral link).
